What is online counseling?

Online counseling is psychotherapy that occurs between a licensed counselor and a client online rather than at a physical location.

How does it work?

Once we’ve decided that online counseling is a good fit for you, it is important that you identify a quiet, comfortable, and private room that is equipped with a computer, internet access, and web-cam. Then we will each log onto a safe, confidential online videoconferencing system to meet for your private counseling session.

How is online counseling different from traditional in-person counseling?

The main difference is that we are not meeting in the same physical space. The good news, however, is that physical distance does not change the quality of therapy. So, in essence, online counseling allows you to get the quality support you need without having to leave the comfort of home.

Are videos recorded?

No. There are no permanent videos or voice recordings kept of our online sessions. Your privacy and confidentiality are of the upmost importance so great measures have been taken to protect them.

Who can you work with?

I’m a licensed psychologist in Texas (#36702) and am authorized by PSYPACT to provide online therapy to individuals in over 30 other states. See if your state is part of the list. Or contact me and I'd be happy to clarify that for you.

I don’t live in the states you mentioned, can we still work together?

It depends on where you live. Schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation with me to figure out whether your state or country permits online counseling with a provider that lives outside of your area. If not, I’m happy to help you identify alternative options!

I’ll be traveling, can we still work together?

It depends on where and for how long you will be traveling. Schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation and we can figure out whether online counseling with me is the best for you. If not, I’m happy to help you identify alternative options!

What can I expect at the first session?

Our first meeting is about getting to know one another. You can expect to share your concerns, experiences, and personal history. You’ll learn about my counseling style, practice policies, and my assessment of your concerns. My objective is to gather information, help you identify your goals, and together we will develop a plan to get you feeling great again.

How long does a counseling session take?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes, one time per week. But there is room to tailor sessions to your needs. We can decide if longer sessions or less frequent sessions are needed.

The first session will be 90 minutes.

Why is the first session longer?

Gathering information, discussing logistics, and creating a plan takes up more time than would be feasible in a regular 50 minute session. With the extra time, we’ll make sure that you feel heard, know what to expect from counseling, and get clearer about next steps.

Do you provide counseling in any language other than English?

I’m fluent in conversational Arabic and have had many successful experiences providing services to Arabic-speaking clients.
